The project was part of a competition to create a music hub in Manhattan by transforming an old train station into the New York City Theater. To revitalize the historic terminus of the High Line while preserving its heritage, the design concept represents two trains crossing paths. The volumes convey a sense of flow, speed, and movement.
The site is organized into three zones, with the two main buildings positioned centrally and surrounded by a public park. These volumes are connected by a square, where the main entrances are sheltered by a steel-and-glass canopy that echoes the movement of trains. This structure also forms a light cone, channeling natural light to the lower underground level, which houses the restaurant and cafeteria.
Structurally, the main framework features 25-meter-long beams with 814 mm HSE double welding. The building spans 22 bays of approximately 8 meters each, totaling 160 meters in length. The roof is fully equipped with 5,800 photovoltaic panels, ensuring sustainable energy production.
