Plaça Joan Pelegrí is located in the Sants district, in the north-west of Barcelona, approximately 600 meters from Plaça d’Espanya. The client, the Generalitat of Barcelona (municipal administration), aimed to transform this space into a strong social landmark, creating a place for interaction and community life.
The design focuses on creating a network of spaces and pathways, carefully organized according to primary and secondary access points and user flows. In the area adjacent to residential entrances, the urban design introduces a more sheltered and private zone. Surrounding the square, a Corten steel structure defines the identity of the project, forming a continuous promenade that provides shade and areas for rest and social interaction.
Urban furniture is inspired by traditional Barcelona seating, creating small-scale gathering spaces that encourage communication and social engagement.
To enhance shaded areas, photovoltaic panels are integrated into the Corten steel structure, generating surplus energy partially used by the square itself. This innovative system connects urban design with technology, promoting the use of renewable resources.
