The project is a competition proposal for a modern archive in Kassel, Germany, incorporating a library, exhibition spaces, a café-bar, restaurant, conference rooms, and additional facilities.

The design seeks to open the building to the pedestrian street from the nearby church and the perpendicular street, creating a public plaza in front of the main entrance. This connection naturally draws people into the building.

A monumental atrium and a primary staircase link all floors from the ground level to the fourth floor. The stairs also function as informal public seating areas at the beginning and end of each flight, fostering interaction and gathering.

The exterior features a double-skin façade in Corten steel with perforations to allow natural light into the interior. Corten offers low maintenance and protection from the elements, while its warm brown tone evokes the concept of memory and history, aligning with the archive’s purpose.

The inclined roof is designed to capture solar radiation for renewable energy use. The main structure is composed of reinforced concrete with pillars and load-bearing walls, ensuring stability and durability.
